Performance of CPS based on Citrix Provisioning Server

Introduction

One of the most asked question about Citrix Provisioning Server (formerly known as Ardence OS Streaming is about the performance of the system which are running with a streamed operating system.

One of my customers would like to use (at that time still named) Ardence OS Streaming for their Citrix Presentation Server. Main reasons were to guarantee that all servers (in the same silo) were 100% identical and maintaining and updating the servers becomes easier. Although they really liked the concept they would see practical results about the performance. So during the Proof of Concept were we logically tested much more options and requirements for the environment we did also a comparison load test. In the load test we fired the same scripts on a server installed the traditional physical way and one server based on Ardence OS Streaming.

Running Citrix Presentation Server with Ardence OS Streaming

Introduction

Ardence's OS-streaming capabilities represent a significant step forward in the virtualization evolution. Using Ardence software, the complete operating system can be virtualized, providing many advantages in terminal servers environments. Citrix expert Brian Madden has previously published a white paper offering a conceptual view of Ardence in combination with Citrix Presentation Server. This white paper goes a step further, actually describing how to run Citrix Presentation Server with Ardence's OS-streaming software.

SBC Round-up 2007

Version: 1.1
Changed on: 23 August 2007

Years ago, Brian Madden and Gabe Knuth wrote an article that compared Citrix MetaFrame (as it was called at the time) with several other Terminal Server add-on products. In those intermediate years many things have been changed logically. Some manufacturers disappeared, some have been taken over and new companies jumped into the SBC market.

In 2007 we (Claudio and Wilco) again looked at the eight most known Terminal Server add-on products available at that time. At the BriForum 2007 in Chicago we presented our findings of these products. Out of this presentation we created a Feature Matrix list.
